UNHCR: 45% of Syrian Refugees are of working age and 177 thousand of them have obtained work permits

A report issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees revealed that out of the 229850 Syrian refugees registered with UNHCR of working age, thousand and 920 refugees only have obtained work permit according to the data available till the end of last year. The numbers include 168,517 males and only 8403 women.
 
The figures also show that 45.6% of the total number of Syrian refugees are of working age; of whom 23.2% are women and 22.4% are male.
 
The majority of working Syrian refugees males work in the sectors of agricultural and construction, while women prefer to work from home, according to the paper. The data also showed that the Labour Office in the Zaatari Camp issued 26.6 thousand work permits, while 11.4 thousand permits were issued by the Azraq Camp Labor Office.
 
Syrian refugees are allowed to work in Sectors that are open to non-Jordanian workers, which exclude the sectors of education, health, energy, and technical professions.
 
Another recent report by the same agency also indicated that the total needs of the UNHCR amounted to $ 40.8 million to cover its needs for the month of January, which is 11% of the full budget for 2020 that is expected to amount to $356.4 million
